The arrival hall at Teesside Airport is undergoing a significant renovation.

With major construction work now taking place to transform the arrivals hall, Teesside International Airport (MME) is becoming more welcoming than ever.

In addition to fresh flooring and painting work to enhance the overall passenger experience, the room has been remodelled, with new walls and signage to help direct passengers and make navigating through arrivals as smooth as possible.

As part of the pledge by Tees Valley Mayor, Ben Houchen, and Teesside Airport to support local businesses and staff, the renovations are being carried out by Stockton-based MJ Joinery and Ideal Decorators North East.

Again with new carpeting, paint and signage making the entrance more inviting and easy to navigate, the redesign follows similar changes made in the departures lounge.

The improvements were unveiled just days after it was announced that from 7 September 2020, famous flights to Aberdeen and Belfast will operate twice daily. Recently, the airport has also secured a new route to London Heathrow Airport (LHR), the largest airport in the United Kingdom, with a service scheduled to begin operations on 14 September 2020.

Houchen said The arrivals hall at Teesside International will be the first thing for many visitors and investors that they have seen in our area, and we had to give it a facelift and get it out of the 70s." It is important that we give a great first impression to those coming, because investment in our region will not come on a bus, it will come through that terminal. We need to project our region's image as new, optimistic and a great place to invest, live, visit and work, and that's exactly what this revamp is going to do.

A huge strand of our work here has been from the first day of getting this airport back into public ownership, investing in the passenger experience and transforming the site into one we can be proud of. The enhanced areas of departures and arrivals complement our new and expanded routes and demonstrate that when our Southside construction is complete, we will soon be open to doing business, a key component of my job strategy. We are backing our employees and demonstrating the direct importance of the airport in Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool today by again using local companies to carry out our upgrade work," he added."

All study is carried out in compliance with the COVID-19 protection and social distancing guidelines of the UK government. New health and safety initiatives have now been placed in place for the airport for the security and safety of staff and travelers, with six easy steps currently in service, including hand sanitisation points and face masks.
